ABINGDON TOWN LAUNCH CROWD-FUNDING PAGE

Abingdon Town Football Club have a rich history being formed in 1870. They were founder members of the Hellenic League in 1953 winning the Premier Division in 1957, 1959, 1960 and 1987. They were member of the Isthmian League from 1989 to 2005 with the top finish being sixth in Division One on two occasions in 1992 and 1993. They have also reached the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup twice in 1989 when they lost to Slough Town and 1992 when Merthyr Tydfil defeated them in a replay.

Over the past few years it's been a struggle for the club who dropped into the North Berks League for two seasons between 2014 to 2016 and are currently in the UHLSport Hellenic League Division One East and now new Chairman Joe Bailey has revealed the club needs a cash injection of around £20,000 to continue playing games past February. The money will help refurbish the club's Kitchen and Bar which will earn the club some valuable income.

Bailey took over as Chairman in October when after the previous owners left many of the players followed and they have had to rebuild an entire squad since.

The club have started a gofundme page at gofundme.com/abingdon-town-football-club which states "Funds are desperately needed for referees fees, training, ground care, and for desperate improvements to our facility. We have encountered a lot of FA fines due to un-played games and some existing fouls from before we took over the club. The reality is, unless we can clear this debt we won't have a club come February 2019."

If you are business or an individual who would be in a position to help the Culham Road club please contact them ASAP. The club also have youth teams and  a very successful ladies team who are currently playing in the Thames Valley Counites Women's League Division Two South.

They were only formed this year and their record this season is twelve wins in twelve games with an amazing total of 103 goals scored - they have only conceded two goals both of which were in their last game played. Their next game is a top of the table clash with Milton United on Sunday a team they beat 0-7 in the Berks and Bucks Cup a few weeks back.

One of their games against bottom of the table Thatcham Town ended 28-0 - it's been a difficult season for them as they have lost all their games mostly by double figures conceding 118 goals in 10 games played.

The first team's next two games don't come harder as they travel to second placed AFC Aldermaston this Saturday and table topper's Burnham on Saturday 29th December.

For a club with 148 years of history to fold would be terrible to see so any help anyone can offer the club i'm sure will be gratefully received.
