FA TROPHY THIRD ROUND PROPER

It was an evening to remember at Nyewood Lane on Tuesday as Bognor Regis Town defeated National League side Altrincham 2-1 via goals from Craig Robson and James Crane. The Rocks are now the only Ryman League side left in the competition and travel to Vanarama South side Sutton United in the Third Round Proper.

In total their are 9 Vanarama National, 1 Vanarama North, 2 Vanarama South and 1 Evo Stik Northern League Premier sides in the draw who will be joined by either Oxford City or Cheltenham Town (their replay was postponed tonight) and Bradford Park Avenue or Nantwich Town (who drew 1-1 tonight and replay next mid-week).

Grimsby Town (runner's up in 2013) are the bookmaker's favourites at 4/1. They have a home draw agianst Havant and Waterlooville who are currently bottom of the Vanarama South division but they did beat a Vanarama National side in Welling United in the last round.

Macclesfield Town (1971 and 1996), Woking (1994, 1995 and 1997) and Cheltenham Town (1998) are the only teams left who have previously won the competition so there is a chance a new name may be engraved on the Trophy at the end of the season.

AFC Fylde lifted the FA Vase in 2008 (under the former name of Kirkham & Wesham) so they could be the first team win both competitions. Tamworth (won the Vase in 1989 - r/u in Trophy in 2003) and Forest Green Rovers (won the Vase in 1982 and r/u in Trophy in 1999 and 2001) have come the closet to achieving this.
