Just six points separate the current top five in the Essex Senior League with Clapton (6th) and FC Romania (7th) all with games in hand over the top five except Basildon United it's looking to be a very exciting season.

Sawbridgeworth Town currently lead the way and are the only unbeaten side left in the league winning ten and drawing four of their fourteen games played so far. Away from home they have six wins from six and are home four wins and four draws - one of which came against Newham which was a 2-2 result - the point gained for Sawbo has been taken off them as they were found to be playing an ineligible player. Could this point cost them at the end of the season?

Last season's runner's up Bowers & Pitsea were considered by many as the favourites for the title this campaign and have another amazing playing record of ten wins two draws and just one defeat - which came at home to local rival's Basildon United on Saturday 17th October.

The Bees are in third place and could go top if they win their games in hand. They have just two defeats in their eleven league games which both came at The Mile End Stadium. They lost to Tower Hamlets on Monday 10th August (2-0) and Sporting Bengal United on Saturday 26th September (1-0).

Ilford (two defeats in thirteen), Wadham Lodge (two defeats in fifteen), Clapton (one defeat in twelve), Barking (three defeats in thirteen) and FC Romania (two defeats in twelve) are all in with a shout of a tilt at the title. The Ton's only league defeat came on the opening day of the season at Basildon United (2-1).

At the bottom of the division it's been a real struggle for Enfield 1893 who have just one point to their name after twelve games played. Neil Blackburn has joined as new manager and got that point in his first game in charge at home to Stansted on Tuesday 13th October. Since then they have lost to Southend Manor, Sawbridgeworth Town, Clapton and Waltham Forest. Blackburn had lots of success with Laindon Orient in the Mid Essex League where he was boss for over five years - I think the club will start to get a few more positive results once Blackburn gets a settled squad.

The 1-6 home defeat against Waltham Forest would of been very disapointing for fans of 1893 as it was The Stags first win of the season - the only other positive result for Terry Fogarty's being a 1-1 draw at Southend Manor on the opening day.

Tenth placed London Bari have the best defensive record in the division alongside Basildon United letting in just eight goals in their eleven games played. They are also second bottom of the goal-scoring totals hitting the back of the net just eleven times.

This coming Saturday could be a pivotal day for the title race with 3rd v 5th, 2nd v 6th and 1st v 4th games all taking place
