SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION - THE SEASON SO FAR

SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
CURRENT TABLE - TOP FIVE ONLY
POS TEAM P GD PTS
1 AFC DUNSTABLE 8 +20 22
2 HERTFORD TOWN 9 +11 19
3 WELWYN GARDEN CITY 7+20 18
4 HADLEY 9+16 18
5 LONDON COLNEY 8 +11 18

AFC Dunstable currently lead the table on 22 points from 8 games played. They have won 7 of those 8 games with their only points dropped coming in a 0-0 draw against 5th placed London Colney. AFC Dunstable, London Colney and Hertford Town are the only three teams left unbeaten with third placed Welwyn Garden City winning 6 of their 7 games losing just once against London Colney at home 1-4. Hadley are in fourth place winning 6 and losing 3 of their games played so far against 15th placed Stotfold (0-3) and 13th placed Wembley (2-1 and 0-2).

The forthcoming month sees the teams in the current top five play each other twice - Hadley travel to AFC Dunstable next Tuesday and then they make the shorter trip to Hertford Town on Saturday 17th October.

Hertford Town have a challenging month ahead - as well as the home game with Hadley they have local derby trips to St Margarestsbury and FC Broxbourne Borough along with an away game at Tring Athletic who, at present, have a 100% winning record in home games. They also have an FA Vase game at Stowmarket Town tomorrow along with a Premier Division Cup Tie at London Colney and the rearranged Challenge Cup game against Hale Leys United after the extra-time incident.

Nine points currently separate top position with eleventh placed Holmer Green so it's not necessarily one of the top five teams who may finish top - Any team putting together a decent run of form still has a chance.

Although you might read something into the fact AFC Dunstable and Welwyn Garden City have the record for the most goals scored (26) and least goals conceded (6)?

Could Cockfosters take some points off of AFC Dunstable over their next two games? - They travel to Creasey Park tomorrow with a decent away record of 3 wins and 1 draw from 4 games. They then play the return game next Saturday. Points in these games would move Cockfosters up from their current eighth place position.

At the bottom of the the table Bedford and Harefield are still without a win. Harefield play Colney Heath (A) tomorrow followed by a bottom of the table clash at home to Bedford next Saturday. Bedford welcome 12th placed Sun Sports to McMullen Park tomorrow.

Third bottom Biggleswade United Head Coach Cristian Colas must be scratching his head as to his team's league form. In eight games they have scored just four goals and won only one game being an opening day victory over Holmer Green. That's a strike rate of one goal every two games. There is a complete difference in their Cup games however - they have scored an amazing seventeen goasls in five games which is a strike rate of 3.4 goals every game. One of those victories was a memorable FA Cup 5-3 victory over Chalfont St Peter who currently top the Evo Stik Southern League Division One (Central). Thankfully their next two games come in cup competitions at home to Leverstock Green tomorrow in the FA Vase and then in midweek at home to Sun Sports in the Premier Division Cup. Their next league game is on Saturday 10th October at home to seventeenth placed London Tigers.
