RYMAN PREMIER DIVISION - THE SEASON SO FAR

THE TITLE CONTENDERS
PPG = points per game
PPG* = points per game in last six games
TEAM P W D L GF GA GD PTS WIN% PPG PPG*
MAIDSTONE UNITED 32 22 6 4 62 27 +35 72 68.75% 2.25 2.17
DULWICH HAMLET 34 20 7 7 56 32 +24 67 58.82% 1.97 2.00
MARGATE 31 20 5 6 67 33 +34 65 64.52% 2.10 1.67

At the top of the table three teams have a realistic chance of winning the title. If all three teams continue with their current season points per games average they would finish on roughly 103 (Maidstone United), 90 (Dulwich Hamlet) and 96 (Margate). If you look at their current form of points per game in the last six the totals will be an estimate of 102, 91 and 90. It's easy to see why the bookmakers make Maidstone United title favourites although they did drop points at home in a 1-1 draw with 20th placed Witham Town on Saturday. Either way it'll be a real turn around in form to see any team but these in the top three at the end of the season - One will go up as Championship winners with the other two entering the lottery of the play-offs.

GRAYS ATHLETIC 31 13 4 14 47 45 +2 43 41.94% 1.39 1.67

The race for the remaining two play off spots is between the above sides with some having a more realistic chance of making 4th or 5th spot than others.

Hendon have a great chance as they have only lost 5 of their 31 games so far followed by East Thurrock United, Met Police, and Leiston all with a good chance of a play-off place. All three of these teams will need to make a big improvement over their last six games played if they want to be involved - 1.33, 1.17 1.33 and 1.17 points per game won't be good enough!

Kingstonian, Wingate, Enfield Town, Bognor Regis, Billericay and Grays can all be marked under the section "outside chance" with Leatherhead (the current form team of the division) with a real outside chance. Their current win% of 36.36% is not good enough - they really can't afford to lose another game in their remaining thirteen games.

If The K's, Wingate and Enfield Town continued on 2 points per game or improve this figure they have ever chance although it's a fact that since play-offs have been played in the Ryman Premier in 2004/05 only one team has ever finished in the top five having lost 15 games (in 42 and 46 game seasons) which was Hampton and Richmond Borough in 2005/06 who lost 15 of their 42 games played and ended with a points total of 75.

BURY TOWN 34 4 9 21 24 62 -38 21 11.76% 0.62 0.67

It's difficult to see a way out for bottom of the table Bury Town who are cut adrift by seven points. Even if they win their next two games they will still be one point below the teams above them and this is assuming the teams above lose their games. To add to this every team above Bury to eighteenth placed Tonbridge Angels all have games in hand over them too. They still have a chance though with 36 points to play for.

At the top of this mini-table a few more wins for Canvey Island, P&T, Tonbridge Angels and H&R will see them safe with Lewes nervously looking over their shoulders to Witham Town and AFC Hornchurch who both have games in hand over them.

Harrow have had new manager Steve Baker in place for a few weeks so results could start to turn around soon?

FORTHCOMING KEY FIXTURES

Tuesday 17th February
LEISTON v MARGATE
A long midweek trip for The Gate to the play-off chasing Suffolk side. Leiston were held 2-2 at VCD Athletic on Saturday. A must win game for the Kent side with a win for the home side seeing them move up into fifth place as the teams above them are not playing.

WITHAM TOWN v HARROW BOROUGH
A huge game and real relegation six-pointer in Essex. An away win would see Borough move out of the bottom four to be replaced by the home side.

Saturday 21st February
HARROW BOROUGH v VCD ATHLETIC
Another six pointer game for Borough. It's a tough ask but two victories for them and their outlook could be much rosier this time next week? A must win game for both sides - A draw would do neither any favours.

LEISTON v MAIDSTONE UNITED
After Margate visit in midweek it's table topper's Maidstone United on Saturday.

MARGATE v HENDON
Margate need to keep on winning and Hendon need the points too to keep up their play-off spot comfortable.

Saturday 28th February
BURY TOWN v AFC HORNCHURCH
Another big game down at the bottom of the table. An away win would see The Urchin's move up the the table with the home side moving closer towards Division One (North) for the 2015/16 season.

ENFIELD TOWN v LEISTON
The two Division One (North) rivals from the 2013/14 season are now playing for a possible play-off place in the Premier Division. A must win game for the Town with a draw a decent result for the away side.

Saturday 7th March
MET POLICE v WINGATE & FINCHLEY
Two play-off rivals face each other at Imber Court.

WITHAM TOWN v AFC HORNCHURCH
Another must win game for both sides in an all Essex relegation six pointer.
