MAIDSTONE UNITED SNAP UP AKROFI

Ryman Premier Division Maidstone United have today announced the signing of 19 year old Alex Akrofi from Division One (North) side Brentwood Town. The striker has attracted interest from several football league sides after breaking into the first team at Brentwood where he came through the ranks. He scored six times in eight games for Town this season and impressed in their narrow FA Cup defeat at The Gallagher Stadium earlier in September.

He is not the only striker in the division to get a move to a club higher up the pyramid as 20 year old Ade Yussuf who scored seven times for Chatham Town moved to League Two side Dagenham and Redbridge in September and has since made three substitute appearances for The Daggers. It was reported that Yussuf took a pay cut to give up his day job at Wagamamas to join Wayne Burnett's side.

Another player to make his football league debut recently was Erhun Oztumer who came on as a substitute for Peterborough United in their home 2-2 draw with Oldham Atheltic on Saturday. Oztumer has been well written about on The Cold End and elsewhere having starred in the Dulwich Hamelt midfield for the last two seasons.

These players are just a few examples of the talent that can be found in non-league football. Many football league scouts are now regularly seen at non-league games looking to 'find' the next new up and coming player for their club.
