FA CUP UPDATE

After the excitement of the midweek replays the following teams are left in the FA Cup as it enters the First Qualifying Round stage on the weekend of Saturday 13th September -

SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE
BIGGLESWADE UNITED v LEVERSTOCK GREEN
HERTFORD TOWN v Canvey Island
Brentwood Town v LONDON COLNEY
LONDON TIGERS v Brightlingsea Regent
Thurrock v WELWYN GARDEN CITY

There will be definitely one SSMFL team through the 2nd Qualifying Round as Biggleswade United (who had one of the best results in the last round winning 1-2 at Step 4 Hanwell Town) entertain Leverstock Green. For Levvy it's the first time they've played in the 1st Qualifying Round since they started competing in the competition in 2004. United first played in the FA Cup in 2005 and have reached the 1st QR twice before where both times they played at Hendon who won 6-0 in 2005 and 7-1 in 2013.

Hertford Town face a tough game at home to Ryman Premier Division Canvey Island but will be in a confident mood having beaten Division One (North) Great Wakering Rovers in the last round. London Colney also beat a Division One (North) side in Maldon and Tiptree in the the last round and face another trip in the 1st QR where Brentwood Town are their opposition. London Tigers welcome Brightlingsea Regent to Avenue Park.

Welwyn Garden City continued their Cup run last night as they beat Saffron Walden Town 1-0 after extra time in their replay in front of a massive crowd of 315 people at Herns Lane. The goal to win the game was a special one scored by Juan Cifuentes and courtesy of @essexfootie you can watch it below. There fans will relish the trip down the A1 and around the M25 to Thurrock. I hope the Ship Lane bar is well stocked!

ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE
AFC Sudbury v FC ROMANIA
BOWERS AND PITSEA V Witham Town

FC ROMANIA WILL PLAY THE BIGGEST GAME IN THEIR SHORT HISTORY AT AFC SUDBURY

The Essex Senior League is now only represented by two clubs after FC Romania's famous win over Heybridge Swifts on Sunday. They travel to AFC Sudbury who beat Redbridge 3-2 in a Tuesday night replay - The score was 2-2 with the game drifting towards penalty kicks but thanks to Kris Newby's 119th minute strike the Suffolk side won 3-2.

AFC were expected to do well in Divisin One (North) rated as 8/1 third favourites for the title but have had an indifferent start to their league campaign winning two, drawing two and losing two of their opening six games - FC Romania with a league record of four wins from four and a goal difference of +18 will certainly be no pushovers!

Bowers and Pitsea saw off Colney Heath in the last round and welcome Witham Town to The Len Salmon Stadium.

RYMAN DIVISION ONE (NORTH)
AFC SUDBURY v FC Romania
BRENTWOOD TOWN v London Colney
Cambridge City v NEEDHAM MARKET
CRAY WANDERERS v Tooting and Mitcham United
Grays Athletic v HARLOW TOWN
London Tigers v BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT
ROMFORD v Bury Town
St Neots Town v DEREHAM TOWN
THURROCK v Welwyn Garden City
TILBURY v AVELEY
WALTHAM ABBEY v BARKINGSIDE

Thirteen teams remain from Division One (North) with two all division ties in a local derby between Tilbury and Aveley as well as Barkingside's trip to Capershotts to play Waltham Abbey.

There is also a South London derby as Cray Wanderers welcome Tooting and Micham United to Hayes Lane.

RYMAN PREMIER DIVISION
AFC Hayes v HARROW BOROUGH
AFC HORNCHURCH v EAST THURROCK UNITED
BILLERICAY TOWN v Hadleigh United
BOGNOR REGIS TOWN v LEWES
Bowers and Pitsea v WITHAM TOWN
DULWICH HAMLET v Worthing
ENFIELD TOWN v Felixstowe and Walton United
Folkestone Invicta v MARGATE
GRAYS ATHLETIC v Harlow Town
Haverhill Borough v LEISTON
HENDON v AFC Rushden and Diamonds
Hertford Town v CANVEY ISLAND
Horsham v KINGSTONIAN
LEATHERHEAD v Faversham Town
MAIDSTONE UNITED v Littlehampton Town
PEACEHAVEN AND TELSCOMBE v East Preston
Romford v BURY TOWN
South Park v METROPOLITAN POLICE
TONBRIDGE ANGELS v Herne Bay
VCD ATHLETIC v HAMPTON AND RICHMOND BOROUGH
WINGATE AND FINCHLEY v Ipswich Wanderers

The Premier Division teams enter at this stage with some fantastic games for fans to look forward to. Hendon will welcome AFC Rushden and Diamonds to Earlsmead and should expect a decent crowd that will be swelled by a large travelling support. The Diamonds won 0-3 at Bedford Town on Tuesday evening in front of 552 with the home game at The Dog and Duck (they currently ground share with Wellingborough Town) on Saturday attracting 761.

There are three all divisional ties as VCD welcome Hampton, Bognor Regis entertain Lewes and East Thurrock United travel to Essex rival's AFC Hornchurch.

Peacehaven and Telscombe will be reminded of their Sussex County League days when they entertain East Preston who are the current league champions.
Wingate will welcome Ipswich Wanderers to North London in the FA Cup

Enfield Town welcome Felixstowe and Walton United to Donkey Lane with three other RPL v East Counties League games where Hadleigh United visit Billericay Town, Haverhill Borough host Leiston and Wingate and Finchley welcome Ipswich Wanderers to Summers Lane.

The Seasiders have a number of ex Ryman League players in their squad so it won't be an easy game for Enfield Town. Assistant Manager Danny Bloomfield (ex of Needham Market, Lowestoft Town and AFC Sudbury) has added to their firepower up top along with defender Sheirdan Driver (Needham Market, Leiston) and Bradley & Rhys Barber (Needham Market). They all played in the win at Ware.

The winners of the 1st Qualifying Round games pick up an impressive £3,000 from the Football Association prize fund.
