Division One of the SSMFL is shaping up to be one of the most exciting divisions in the local area with a number of teams gunning for the all important top two places and promotion to the Premier Division.

Proudly sitting on top of the table at present are The Citizens under the new management of Adam Fisher for this season. There are numerous teams below that if they win their games in hand they will overtake Welwyn including newcomers Baldock Town currently in seven place and Codicote in eighth place so it really is early days yet.

Welwyn are averaging 3.7 goals per game which compared to the 0.8 the team managed in the first nine league games last season is an amazing improvement. In fact they have scored over 50% of the 66 goals they managed in 40 league games last season!

FC Broxbourne Borough suffered an unexpected defeat in the FA Vase on Saturday when Essex Senior League side Sporting Bengal United recorded a 0-3 victory at Goffs Lane but should return to winning ways at the weekend when Arlesey Town Reserves visit. SBU had lost their last two league games 2-7 and 2-4.

Three teams currently remain unbeaten who are Southall, Kings Langley and Codicote with only one waiting for a victory. Langford have just one point from six league games which was a 1-1 home draw with fellow struggler's Arlesey Town Reserves. They were beaten 1-5 at home to Newport Pagnell Town in the FA Vase on Saturday and face a tough trip to Codicote tomorrow night. Could they get their win this coming Saturday when Kentish Town visit Forde Park who have the joint worst attack in the league with only 3 league goals scored so far?
