EAST LONDON SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE - 2013/14

Many people will mention The Hackney and Leyton League if you ask them about Sunday football in the East of our Capital city but it's not the only league which plays it's matches on the Hackney Marshes every weekend. Many of the games in The East London Sunday Football League are played on the iconic pitches alongside The Camden Sunday League as well.

With The Cold End's recent drive to promote and focus on the real grass roots of our game today we'll concentrate on The ELSFL which was formed way back in 1930 and for the 2013/14 season is running with three divisions with the total number of clubs numbering twenty-seven.

Last season's Premier Division champions were Hatch Lane who were followed closely by Millwall Albion and Albert Royals. Hatch Lane no longer play in the league - I am not sure if they have folded or play elsewhere for the 2013/14 season.

The second week of fixtures are scheduled for this Sunday as follows -

PREMIER DIVISION
ALBERT ROYALS v BYRON ATLHETIC
HACKNEY DOWNS 'A' v WHARFAHAMPTON
SPRINGFIELD v MILLWALL ALBION
STRATFORD JUNIORS v REAMA

Springfield started the season off with an emphatic 1-8 win against Stoke Newington so will be in a confident mood when they face last season's runner's up Millwall Albion who recorded a 2-1 win against Hackney Downs 'A' last weekend.

DIVISION ONE
CRANES v CS ROMANIA
INTERNACIONAL v QUEENSBRIDGE RANGERS
LORD MORPETH v HACKNEY DOWNS 'B'
ST LUCIA UNITED v ARBOUR ATHLETIC

The Lord Morpeth's website can be found here and states 'The worse kind of players are the ones that talk about themselves all the time! No i in team, Win, lose and draw as a team!' which sums up how the game should be played in my book. The team are named after the historic East End Pub on the Old Ford Road opposite Victoria Park where they take on Hackney Downs 'B' on Sunday morning.

DIVISION TWO CARDIGAN v HALE RANGERS
CHETTLE COURT RANGERS v AC NIGHTINGALE
NEW WARD VITURE v WORKHOUSE

In Division Two Cardigan started out with a 0-7 defeat against Workhouse and on Sunday morning face Hale Rangers who won 0-6 against Chettle Court Rangers. AC Nightingale (0-4 winners against Castrillon) play CCR.
