ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE UPDATE

Burnham Ramblers lead the way in the early Essex Senior League table closely followed by London Bari, Takeley, Great Wakering Rovers and Enfield 1893 FC. Interestingly the only unbeaten side are seventh placed Bethnal Green United whom have only played three games as opposed to the top two who have played six games. Eton Manor, in ninth place, can also move up the table if they win their games in hand.

Many of the teams in the league have unfortunately struggled with low attendances over the past few seasons. The top crowd so far this campaign has been the 121 people who witnessed Great Wakering Rovers v Basildon United on Tuesday 14th August with the lowest being the 15 people at London APSA's home game against Stansted on Tuesday 7th August.

It's very early days in the title-race so perhaps over the next few months a few teams may start pulling away at the top of the table??  Southend Manor (lost at Leiston) and Basildon United (lost at home to Thurrock) were the last ESL sides in this season's FA Cup both going out at the 1st Qualifying Round stage.

This Saturday some of the ESL teams are involved in the FA Vase with only three league games taking place. All of the league fixtures involve teams towards in the top five with London Bari hosting Southend Manor, Bethnal Green United welcoming Takeley and Great Wakering Rovers travelling to Goldsdown Road to face Enfield 1893 FC in what is probably the game of the day.

Rovers and 1893 played each other in midweek in The Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy at Burroughs Park with the visitors winning 0-3. Rovers boss Dan Trenkel did make a few changes to his team for this one so the result could be a different one on Saturday. 1893's goals came from Jermaine Osei (2) and ex Waltham Forest player Marquin Smith.

Rovers will not want to make it three away league defeats on the spin having lost at Sawbridgeworth Town and Bethnal Green United so far and Gordon Boateng's side will want to end their 3 match winless league run. It all points towards a decent game this weekend?
