Gabriele Ambroseti who Gianlucca Vialli dubbed 'the Italian Ryan Giggs' when paying Vicenza £3.5m for the winger in August 1999.
Scoring 44 goals in 214 appearance in Italy he had impressed the then Chelsea boss in playing against the West London club in the previous season's European Cup Winner's Cup Semi Final.
After making his debut for Chelsea he failed to live up to the tag and netted only once in the 5-0 Champions League rout in Galatasary.
Ambroseti made a total of 16 league appearances (seven from the substitutes bench) in his stay at Stamford Bridge.
After lenghty loan spell's at Piacenza and previous club Vicenza he left for £3.5m less than he had arrived for and headed back to Italy retiring from the game in 2006.
